Heritage

Rich in heritage, the history of the institution known today as Lewis University is notable for the Mission and significant moments that have served to shape its character. The University celebrated its 75th anniversary two years ago, but this site is presented as one more momentous occasion to reflect on our past and look forward to the vision that will carry us into the future. The evolution of a small Catholic technical school for boys into a mid-sized, comprehensive university has provided a formula for success in the highly competitive world of higher education today.

The timeline shown here is a snapshot of the past 75 years. For a snapshot of each era, click on the date (e.g., 1930, 1940, 1950, etc.) in the red line. Throughout these decades, themes of enrollment growth, campus expansion, program development, and change in response to the needs of the region appear continuously. You may look at a more complete historical timeline on the Lewis University.
