Residence Life

At Lewis University, residence halls are more than a place to sleep and eat. They are extensions of the classroom; they are places where students learn how to appreciate diversity by living and working with people different from themselves. Students learn decision-making skills, they develop independence, they gain self-confidence, and they learn to accept responsibility.

The Residence Life staff consists of the Director and Assistant Director(s), and area coordinators, who live on campus, as well as live-in graduate student Residence Life Coordinators and Resident Assistants who are undergraduates trained to provide support to students living on campus. Student involvement and community decision-making are key ingredients in the residence life program. Resident students who serve on Residence Hall Association organize activities throughout the year and provide input to the residence life staff on a variety of topics, including maintenance, technology, and programming.

Advantages of Living on Campus

The eleven residence halls on the Lewis campus are home to approximately 1,000 students. Lewis offers a variety of residence hall and meal plan options as well as a convenient amenity fee that covers numerous useful services. Among the advantages of living on campus you will find:

• A comfortable, furnished room, complete with bed, desk, desk chair, wardrobe/closet and bookshelf
• In-room access to the University computer network, cable television, on-campus telephone service including voice mail, and a microwave / refrigerator / freezer unit
• Unlimited use of laundry machines in every residence hall
• Convenient study areas and lounges
• Social, and community educational programming in every hall
• Access to nearby classrooms, the library, Student Recreation and Fitness Center, dining facilities, and Student Union

A Closer Look at the Endless Opportunities

Various departments on campus including Athletics, Residence Life, Health and Counseling Services, Multicultural Student Services, and University Ministry sponsor programs in the residence halls. Inside the residence halls, and throughout the campus, students participate in a variety of activities that integrate academics and social opportunities while promoting good citizenship. Some of the varied opportunities include:

• Seminars on study habits, résumé writing, relationships, health issues and more
• Dinner socials
• Intramural competitions
• Movies
• Service and volunteer opportunities
• Dances and socials
• Residence hall tournaments
• Holiday celebrations
• Crafts

Of course, there are plenty of other informal get-togethers in residence hall where students gather to study and socialize. Students are always encouraged not only to participate in, but also to initiate programs. The Residence Life full time professional staff lives on campus along with graduate students assigned to each hall. The University Ministry staff including undergraduate Peer Ministers provides additional support and guidance to our resident students.
