Her experience as an RN includes working as a labor and delivery nurse for over 12 years; thereafter, she has spent part of her career working in an industrial health setting and then worked at a large federally funded community health center, here in Will County, serving as their Quality/Risk manager. Michelle is very excited to be involved in the college setting. She loves being a nurse and working with people. Michelle has been married to her high school sweetheart, Mark, since 1989 and they are blessed with two wonderful sons. Jessica Loftus, Ph.D. Jessica is a licensed clinical psychologist and national certified career counselor. She earned her doctorate in counseling psychology from Loyola University Chicago. Additionally, she completed a two-year training program in Internal Family Systems Therapy. Her professional experience includes providing individual counseling, conducting workshops and teaching college-level courses for over 20 years in private practice and within several university communities. In terms of counseling philosophy, Jessica believes that we all have the resources to live more effectively, but may have difficulty accessing these resources as a result of internal conflicts, stress or outside influences. Therefore, counseling is viewed as an educational process that can facilitate personal growth not only at the formative young-adult stage, but throughout the life span. Common counseling activities include: clarifying thoughts, feelings and values; brainstorming solutions to difficult situations; making effective decisions; improving communication skills; and exploring reasons for problematic behaviors. All of these activities are geared towards the ultimate goal of making positive changes. Cindy Haas, RN Born and raised in Plainfield, Illinois; Cindy has been a part of the Lewis community since 2007. Sandy Speva Sandy has been the secretary at The Center for Health & Counseling Services for 10 years. Teresa Hannon, LCPC Teresa is an Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who has worked at Lewis University Since December 2006. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois and a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from Governors State University. Teresa has worked as a counselor for over 9 years, 8 of which have been in a college setting. Her therapeutic focus when working with students often centers on 1) the importance of changing negative cognitions which influence overall mental health, 2) the impact of family dynamics on individuals and 3) the significance of personal responsibility. She believes that physical and mental health is often very connected. Therefore, she works from a more holistic viewpoint and often uses relaxation techniques when assisting her students. Laszlo Stojalowsky, LCPC Laszlo was born and raised in New Jersey. He earned his B.A. in Psychology and Spanish from Central College in Pella, Iowa, and his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Illinois State University. He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois, and has over 11 years of counseling experience in several different clinical and academic settings. Laszlo believes in the importance of drawing from a variety of theoretical approaches in helping students identify and understand their concerns, and in working collaboratively with them to make positive changes in their lives. Keeping in mind the uniqueness of each student’s personal style, he will often utilize a combination of behavioral, cognitive, interpersonal, communication, and insight-oriented strategies to empower students with the tools and skills to make these changes. |
