Health Services

November 13, 2009
Dear Lewis Students,

Lewis University has received a limited supply of the H1N1 influenza vaccine and will be holding a student vaccination clinic Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Center for Health and Counseling.  Health Services will be open for the vaccination clinic only that day and will resume normal operations the following day. Because the vaccine supply is currently limited, public health authorities recommend that only priority populations receive the vaccine at this time.

Therefore, only Lewis students who qualify for the vaccine under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines will be eligible to receive the vaccine at this time.  The CDC guidelines list the following priority groups:

  • Pregnant women – MUST bring a note from their obstetrician recommending that they be vaccinated against H1N1.
  • People who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months of age.
  • Health care and emergency medical services personnel.
  • People 6 months through 24 years of age.
  • People 25 through 64 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions or a weakened immune system.

Vaccines will be distributed to students in the priority populations listed above on a first come, first served basis. There is no charge for the vaccination; however, it is required that students present their Lewis University ID in order to receive the vaccination.

Other members of the Lewis University community are encouraged to check with their healthcare provider or county health department on vaccine availability.

Please contact the Center for Health and Counseling Services with any questions.
